What is a Baby Boomer?

A baby boomer is someone who was born during a period of increased birth rates, or baby boom, and the term is particularly applied to those born during the post-World War II period of increased birth rates. In the United States, the term is iconic and more properly capitalized as Baby Boomers.

The term is commonly applied to people with birth years after World War II (WW II) and before the Vietnam War, the years from 1946 to 1964, thus possibly comprising more than one generation. The terms “baby boomer” and “baby boom” along with others (i.e., “boomies“), are widely used even in countries with demographics that did not mirror the sustained growth in American families over the same interval. Although the term “boomer” has expanded into global use, the generation is also known in Europe as the Generation of 1968. (Source: Wikipedia)

Advantages of Raised Bed Gardening

Gardening is no longer restricted to homes that have yards. Today, one can create a beautiful and serene garden indoors in a room. Many people nowadays use raised beds when doing indoor gardening. These beds are perfect for flowers and certain small vegetables. In addition, the height of the beds reduces the strain on the back that one get with constant bending when working with conventional garden beds.

There are many advantages of raised bed gardening. Here are some of them:

Not only are raised beds easy to maintain, they also are less prone to certain types of weeds. So, unnecessary usage of herbicides is avoided. Other than that, raised beds are ideal when the soil quality is not very good. In fact, raised beds allow you control the quality of the soil, so you can plant different types of plants using different qualities of soil.

When you plant flowers or vegetables, the excess moisture is not retained. So, the roots have an opportunity to breathe freely. This is especially useful when the area receives heavy showers, which tend to erode the soil. In this case, the water will drain away fast and the soil will not erode. So, you will not face an issue with waterlogging or damaged soil.

Another advantage of this type of bed is utilizing the available space to the maximum. You can grow plants close to one another without overcrowding, and this increases the yield.

As the soil is above the ground, it will warm up faster than a conventional flower bed. This warmth will aid in better and improved growth of the plants.

Raised beds are ideal for seniors who want to indulge into gardening without putting undue strain on their backs. Also, people suffering from back problems are benefited.

Above all, it looks very neat and organized and tend to give a garden a well-kept look.

How to Start a Lawn Mowing and Gardening Business – Your Action Plan (Of Attack) For Success

If you have ever read any books, or gone to any seminars, on “Business Planning” you will get the same old advice, that is, write up a business plan, do your SWOT analysis, analyse the competitors in your market place, etc, etc, etc.

But all this is doing is just holding you back from what you should be doing, and that is, you should Just Do It!

“Do what?” you ask. Just write up small Flyer (A5 will do!), print off 500 from your own computer and get it out there around your local area!

You see, there is no point in doing a business plan and all that stuff, if what you have to offer is not what the customers want.

So, if you want to risk as little as you have to, then knock up a small flyer, put a few hundred out in your area, and see what sort of response you get. If the phone rings, you have a business. After this, the only thing you need to worry about is how effective your advertising flyer is, and you can work on that later!

OK, so up until now we have got into the nitty gritty of our (new) business…but where to from here.

Quite often we get through the first period of our business all fired up, and then we can become a bit lethargic and maybe lose our way a little.

When this happens it’s time for some solid Goal Setting. What you need now is a (Business) Plan of Attack!

Your new Action Plan is all about setting SMART Goals: your new Goals should be [S]pecific, [M]easurable, [A]ttainable, [R]ealistic and [T]imely.

This Action Plan of Attack is not a Business Plan as such, but a To Do List for each Day of the Week, each Week of the Month, each Month of the Year, each Year of the next 5 years and so on.

With Goal Setting it is important to:

Write Your Goals down – keeping in mind the SMART goal setting system
Revise these goals from time to time because some of them may be unreasonable or unnecessary

Goal Setting helps you:

Get over the fear of failure and success
Motivate yourself
Prioritise the important tasks
Take Action to achieve your goals
To plan your business
To overcome obstacles

33 Travel Safety Tips

Traveling to unfamiliar destinations can bring to you the sort of troubles you do not want to experience while on the road namely: robbery, rape, or murder. Tourists often fall prey to perpetrators because they do not prepare properly before embarking on a trip. Let’s examine some things you should do to prevent your travels from becoming a tragedy:

1. Never list your home address on the luggage tag. If on business, put the company’s address on the tag; if visiting friends you can list their address. Use covered luggage tags as well.

2. Stay with your luggage until the luggage is checked. If you must put your bag down, keep one foot on the handle.

3. Carry important papers with you; NEVER check anything that you simply cannot afford to lose. Photocopy your passport, driver’s license and credit cards.

4. Bring a small flashlight. You never know when you’ll suddenly be “in the dark” and find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. At night, keep your flashlight by your bed.

5. Make sure that your prescription medicines are filled properly and labeled accurately. In some countries certain prescription medicines are forbidden.

6. Never wear anything that projects affluence. No gold chains, expensive watches and rings, luggage, or other paraphernalia should be in easy view. Better yet: leave your jewelry at home.

7. If possible travel with only one or two credit cards.

8. Women particularly should never accept a drink from a stranger. Keep an eye on your drink at all times.

9. Vary your schedule; try not to come and go at the same time everyday.

10. Only stay in a hotel that uses cards to open room doors and make sure your room has a peephole and a deadbolt lock. Secure the chain and secure the door by pushing a rubber stop under it.

11. Stay in a room near a stairwell. Never take the elevator if a fire or smoke is detected. Always stay in a hotel where the doors enter the hallway and not directly from the outside.

12. Do not wear name tags in public.

13. Do not use unmarked taxi cabs.

14. Sit behind the driver so you can see him, but he cannot see you.

15. Pay the driver upon arriving at your destination and while you are still sitting in the vehicle.

16. If you must rent a car, rent only from a reputable company. Any operating problems that occur could signal sabotage.

17. Be aware of ‘staged’ car accidents meant to catch you off card.

18. Back into your parking spaces to facilitate a quick exit.

19. Park only in well lit and well traveled areas.

20. If your cell phone does not work outside of the country, consider renting one that does for the duration of your trip.

21. If detained for whatever reason by an official, ask for identification. If in doubt, tell them that you want to see his superior. Keep your emotions in check.

22. If traveling with children, bring along an updated photograph of each child in the event that you become separated from them.

23. Write your child’s name and your hotel number on each card; include a close friend’s or relative’s contact information on the card. Give a card to each child which they will carry with them as long as you are away. Destroy once home.

24. Discuss with your family what they would do in event of an emergency while away from home, e.g. whom to call, how to contact emergency personnel, etc.

25. Do not discuss travel plans, your room number or any other personal information in public within earshot of strangers.

26. Bring along a basic first aid kit with bandages, iodine, mosquito repellant, sunscreen, alcohol packets, dramamine, pepto bismol, diarrhea medicine, etc.

27. Familiarize yourself with train and bus schedules before traveling. Have an alternate plan in place in the event your transportation plans change.

28. Do not flash your passport in public. Discreetly show important documents to officials only.

29. Consider purchasing portable alarms that emit a loud sound.

30. Watch for scams on the street. Children working with adults are notorious as pickpockets.

31. Never flash your money in public. Exchange funds with reputable and recognized exchangers only.

32. Have tips ready in advance for service personnel.

33. Consider renting an escort [security] service if traveling in areas where crime is high.

The key to safe traveling in any area is situational awareness. Distractions because of luggage, children, hotel personnel, strangers, etc. can put you at risk. Know your surroundings and stay in control of every situation.

Bio-Intensive Gardening

This old method of home gardening is simply related to organic gardening although there’s a little twist on the application. It involves the process by digging the plots the same size with the plot at a 1-2 feet depth. Inside the dug portion, all the garden wastes, grass clippings and other plant waste materials are deposited to lay there for a couple of weeks to decompose. This is duplicated to other plots alternately in the garden.

7 Ways You Can Apply Bio-Intensive Gardening

1) Clear the area of all weeds, grass clippings and other waste materials.

2) Put garden waste, grass clippings and other yard wastes in certain place.

3) Layout your garden according to the size of plots you want. It can be 1m X 10m length or 1m X 20 m length plot if your area is wide.

4) On the first row or plot dig the soil according to the size and length of your plot 1-2 ” depth. Place the dug soil on the side of plot to make easier to return them back.

5) Gather all you wastes, grass clippings and other landscape wastes and put them inside the dug plot. Press them properly to compress inside the dug portion.

6) Return the dug soil back into the plots where the grass clippings are deposited and compact them to cover the whole plot. It makes the dug soil raised higher above the soil at around 1 foot high.

7) Make another dug area alternately with your plots until all your waste materials are totally buried under the soil.

After a couple of weeks, you can plant on top of the raised dug plots. The garden wastes are now totally decomposed and you can utilize planting other crops alternately.

Bio-Intensive gardening is effective in areas near urban centers and other populated locations. And this is recommended from environmentalists group since it’s favorable for organic gardening.

Family Adventure Travel Holidays on Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula

How does exploring a land of hilltop villages, seaside resorts, great adventure and active family vacationing sound? It’s all very doable on the Istrian Peninsula, formerly a part of Italy and today the gem of Croatia’s northern coast. Indeed, the juxtaposition of Italian-influenced coastal resorts and inland Croatian villages is possibly Istria’s most compelling feature. Both groups were preceded by Illyrian tribes and ruled throughout by Romans, Byzantium, Venetians and Austrians. However, Italian influence prevails throughout the region.

Every day is a new adventure outdoors on the Istrian peninsula. Be it active exploration of hilltop villages, water adventures of every kind on the coast, agrotourism on its olive oil farms, wine road and truffle forests, you move at your own relaxed pace here, absorbing the area’s Mediterranean Tuscan-like charm.

Opatija

Elegant Opatija lies at the center of the Istrian Riviera, its lush green scenery, warm waters and mild climate provide a relaxing setting in harmony with nature., while its stream of foreign visitors provide the excitement. The Benedictine Abbey established here in 1420, around which the town settled, lends its name to Opatija, meaning abbey. The backdrop of the city, Mt. Ucka provides some great hiking trails, and a view from the mountain top is superb. Exploring the small fishing villages in the area also make for great adventure.

The contrast of lush gardens and an azure sea, lively entertainment venues and quiet natural settings for excursions, water sports and land activities galore all combine to make Opatija a very attractive Croatian destination.

Agrotourism

The 14thcentury fortified town of Motovun, built by the Venetians, as was much of Istria, sits atop a hill overlooking vineyards and olive oil farms. This is an area to experience agrotourism at its best. Quaint doesn’t even begin to describe the mountains and hilltop villages, to the setting of purple-mauve skies, which provide an unforgettable scene of the sinking sun. Accommodations in traditional stone buildings, food grown where you’re staying, local olive oil and wine, and the pleasure of relaxed conversation with locals and guests around a stone fireplace after dinners works its magic, creating a sense of deep inner peace. Hiking and biking trails abound here and the drive to the nearby sea is short.

Seaside Towns

In Istria, the allure of the sea is ever-present. Porec, with its Italian influence has some amazing historical sites. The Basilica of Euphrasius, A UNESCO World Heritage Site, is prominent. This 16thcentury most beautifully decorated complex, with its superb apse mosaics represents an impressive synthesis of classical architecture of the times with the more ornate elements that had begun to develop in the East. The gilt-tiled mosaics literally illuminate the apse and are reason enough to travel to Porec.

Surrounded by hills covered with pines, Rovinj is the best loved towns of the Istrian Peninsula. This beautiful old town sits on a hill where you can easily lose your way among the winding, narrow cobbled streets. The church of St. Euphemia, built in 1736, is perched atop the hill, its tower modeled after St. Mark’s in Venice. From here, the view of lively seaside cafes and fishing boats bobbing in the harbor, to the backdrop of 13 small islands in the distance is astounding. This is the place for a boating adventure to Crevn, Otok or Katarina, some of these lovely offshore islands, or for scuba diving t o the Baron Gautsch wreck.

Since all of Istria is easily managed by short car jaunts, the array of choices are amazing – be it exploring, lodging or dining – the selections are absolutely outstanding!

How to Travel by Plane With Pets

You want to go on vacation with pets and do not know what to do to travel by plane?

Here are some tips:

First, before you travel, make sure your pet will be perfectly healthy. It is good to have a health certificate with you as if not all airlines require you to destinations you might have needed it.

Find an airline to accept your journey with “PET”. It’s good to get in touch by phone with the company with which you will decide to leave. Even if they are allowed to travel with your pet, there is a maximum number, for each flight.

After confirming the reservation, you can buy a ticket.

Buy a special box to transport your pet. Some companies have such boxes, but it is always better to rely on them. When you buy one you must have the animal scale, so it can stand up or return. The cage should also not allow liquid leaking from it.

It is preferable to familiarize the animal to enter and stay in this cage. It’s better to buy a few weeks before the flight, so to have time to get used to stand a few minutes a day inside.

Since the animal during the flight can be stressful, it is better to get tired a bit on the outside, so he will sleep during the flight. Another option is to sedate him.

Watch as during the flight it has enough food and water in the cage.

The airport animal is not allowed to sit only in the cage. Instead, before passing through the security and control, these should be removed to be checked, and then he will be putted back in the cage.

Choosing the Best Travel Mug

Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are popular beverages. When you are on the go, each of these requires a means of transportation. What should you look for in a travel mug? How do you choose the best travel mug?

Here are four qualities to consider when looking for a travel mug:

Insulation Qualities

In general, metals retain consistent temperatures longer than plastic, and double-walled mugs will as well. Plastics can also retain odors and stains, which is less likely with metal mugs.

Size

Most travel mugs hold sixteen ounces and up, large enough for most needs. However, if you are planning to take the mug in the car, make sure the bottom is small enough to fit in your cup holder. Older cars tend to have smaller cup holders, and mugs with a chunky base will not fit.

The Lid

Does the lid close? Cheaper mugs have a hole for drinking and are not spill-proof. How spill-proof is it? The best travel mugs have some kind of locking device, complete with a seal, to intercept being knocked over and guard against car bumps. Does it require too much work to open? Some thermoses, for example, require that you unscrew the lid to drink, which is not safe when driving.

Style

Do you like the look of sleek stainless steel? Will a more utilitarian mug do? Other than looks, consider whether or not you would like a handle, but be aware that two mugs with handles may not fit side-by-side in a car’s cup holder.

Here are some recommended mugs:

Zak City Perk Belly Mug

This is a 14 ounce mug, and retails for $9. The wide base is stable, keeps drinks warm, and has a good lid, but is not useful for cold drinks.

Planetary Designs Tumbler Mug

This is a 16 ounce mug, and it retails for $18. It keeps hot and cold drinks at their particular temperature and is available in a variety of colors. The lid is looser than others.

Thermos Raya Stainless Steel Travel Tumbler

At 16 ounces, it will hold plenty, and retails for only $18. It contains useful rubber grips on the sides for good insulation. It is tall and the thin design can be tipped more easily.

Contigo AutoSeal Stainless Steel Travel Mug

This is another 16 ounce mug, which retails for $19.99. It has good insulation and a leak-proof lid. However, the lid is hard to clean.

So, which is the best travel mug?

The sleek Contigo AutoSeal Stainless Steel Travel Mug will keep hot drinks warm for hours and cold ones even longer. It has a no-spill lid and lives up to its AutoSeal name, resealing after you have taken a drink. The only drawback is that you must hold the release button while drinking, which is not much of an issue with today’s multitaskers.

Looking for the right mug? Be sure to visit my site to find the right beer mug or Spode mug to fit your taste.

Even when your claim is successful, you will keep all of your compensation. Lawyers get their fees paid by insurance companies or the third party involved.

You will be in constant touch with a lawyer from the agency who will keep asking you for more information about the injury/accident, which will only strengthen your case. Soon after the accident, you might not be in a state to recall every small detail about it, which might be useful to your case. Communicating over a period of time helps in that regard.

The lawyer dedicated to your case will keep you updated about the progress on the case, which means you are always in the know.
